Traditionally, people with dark hair and light skin were considered the ideal. The better contrast between hair and skin color, the better the results.  Tattoos have been used since ancient times to beautify and individualize the body. However, our concept of beauty and sense of identity can change, and a tattoo may become a source of concern. Historically, techniques such as dermabrasion and excision have been utilized to remove unwanted tattoos. These techniques often cause undesirable scars. Fortunately, recent advances in laser technology now allow effective and safe tattoo removal with very little risk of scarring.
Lasers can be tuned so that they only damage specific targets in the skin. This principle is known as "selective photothermolysis." For example, certain lasers are tuned to damage only red blood cells and are thus useful for removing spider veins. Other lasers target pigmentation and can be used to remove unwanted brown spots or tattoo pigment. Multi-colored tattoos typically require several different lasers for maximum removal of pigment.  Brown spots, age spots and freckles are now able to be removed with new laser procedures. The lasers work to target the brown pigment called melanin in the skin where these spots occur. The laser's energy is absorbed by the pigment and breaks it down into tiny particles. This excess pigment is then absorbed by the body and cleansed from the system. The spots fade as the skin heals after each laser treatment. The skin remains virtually unaffected by the treatment as the brown spots vanish. Although one treatment is typically enough to rid a patient of 20 to 40 spots on their hands, arms or face, certain spots may take more than one treatment in order to completely fade because they contain a large amount of pigment.
Unlike traditional treatments, such as acids, excision and freezing, the laser does not cause any scarring or any permanent change in the skin texture and color. It restores the skin to its original look and feel.
 The leg vein laser treats individual and matted spider veins, which can be red or purple, raised for flat, and are commonly fond around the ankle, calf or thigh. The majority of patients seeking treatment for removal of unsightly leg veins are for cosmetic reasons. Most are uncomfortable with the appearance of these veins during the warmer months when shorts/skirts are worn.
The leg vein laser produces an intense but gentle burst of laser light that passes harmlessly through the skin and is selectively absorbed by the vessel. The light produced by the laser generates heat within the vessel destroying it without causing thermal injury to any of the surrounding tissue.
Patients will experience some temporary discoloration or reddening of the skin around the treatment sight. Hypo- or Hyper-pigmentation response or increase in pigment color may be experienced by some patients. The skin will typically return to normal pigmentation over time.
An average treatment takes between 15 and 30 minutes. Most veins will fade after one treatment. However, additional treatments may be required depending on the size and location of the vein.
